[orca-list] orca can stay mute if I try to change the synthesizer

Hi all.
To reproduce try the following:
1. Activate the orca's preferences.
2. Go to the voice tab.
3. Press tab until you find the synthesizer
 field.
4. Chose another synthesizer using arrows but do not press the ok button.
5. Press the escape key.

At least in my machine orca stays mute.
Happens with orca 3.10 and orca 3.11.
