Re: [orca-list] mouse over not working

My use of Ubuntu 11.10 predates my use of Orca, and I'd rather not
upgrade unless I really really have to.

Unity 3d was confusing either me or the desktop, and fancy graphical
effects are utterly wasted on me.

Tool tips on or off, makes no difference.

I appreciate that newer versions of gnome/orca may be better than old
ones, but did mouse over ever work on this ancient combination of 12
month old software?

Three things :
1 - your Ubuntu is really old! They've made lots of enhancements in
Orca/Gnome 3.8 and the new Unity. Run the following commands :

sudo -i
do-release-upgrade
do-release-upgrade
do-release-upgrade
exit

2 - enable "speak tooltips"
3 - why are you on Unity 2D? Do you have an older box?

Hi:

I'm trying to get mouse over working on Orca. I'm not sure what the
official title of this is, but when I hover over say a desktop icon,
or a menue item in any app, I'd like to hear the text under it spoken.

I've enabled 'Speak object under mouse' in Orca preferences, but mouse
over greets me with silence. Orca otherwise seems to work fine.

Muy config is Orca 3.2.1, Oralux Voxin, Ubuntu 11.10, unity 2d
desktop. . I realise this is rather old but I'd rather not upgrade
unless I absolutely have to.

I restarted orca with debug and found the following in the log. Dunno if its relevant:
