Hello Simon,
Simon Eigeldinger <simon eigeldinger vol at> writes:
i started xfce using the normal lightdm logon screen.
the .xinitrc just contains the line i wrote below.
there was also no .xinitrc in /etc/skel/ so i created an empty one.
This might be the problem. I'm not sure that .xinitrc is sourced if
using a display manager. I typically set environment variables in
.bash_profile or .bashrc. I can't remember which is sourced, or if
either of these are, when logging in via a display manager. I looked at
the X man page and the one for xinit but didn't get the answer I was
looking for. According to this page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnvironmentVariables
The use of .profile or .bash_profile is deprecated. I've never used the
solution mentioned here but you might want to give it a try.
Best regards,
rdc
