[orca-list] is it safe to update Gnome shell to 3.8 on Ubuntu 13.04

Hello all,
My question is very much on topic, so I did not put an OT although it 
might have seemd to be so.
I am going to install Ubuntu 13.04 on a pen drive (not creating a 
startup disk, but actually installing it ).
I will upgrade the Gnome shell to 3.8 for trying it's capabilities.
Are there any disadvantages in terms of accessibility?
Further more, I wished to ask if there is an accessible way of putting 
icons on the desktop in Gnome 3.6 or 3.8?
I prefer to have a few folders on the desktop for quick access.
