Have you tried logging into the console using a different user name? It
might make Pulse happy. For instance, Dengler could be your console user
name and Bill could be your x one. Some people have reported success with
this approach. Personally, I no longer use Emacspeak on a pulse audio
machine. The complications just magically disappear when you are using pure
Alsa as your sound solution.
You asked if it's better to run within X. I tried this in the past and
found it conflicted with Orca and at-spi to such a degree that I went back
to running it within a console session in stead. I do know of some folks
who have managed to pull running Emacspeak in X in conjunction with Orca
off. Perhaps they'll chime in.
Regards,
Alex M

Hello,
I have run into a slight problem.
Here's what happens :
I log into my Ubuntu box
I press ctrl+alt+f1
I enter my username and press enter
I enter my password and press enter
I type emacspeak -e and press enter
I use emacs for a while, then either close it or go back to X with
CTRL+ALT+F7
I lose speech in X
What appears to be happening is that processes are locking the pulseaudio
server in a way that no other processes can use it. Do you know how to fix
this? Or am I better off continuing to run emacs from inside X?
Bill
