Have you considered using pidgin for twitter?  Install it, and the 
package called pidgin-microblog.  Your twitter account can be added, 
just likeany other service.  Every tweet has reply, retweet, and 
favorite options, reachable with flat review.  Mostly, though, I use a 
terminal twitter client called ttytter; it's not a package in the repos 
and requires a bit of manual setup.  get ttytter from 
http://floodgap.com/software/ttytter/ and look on http://stormdragon.us 
for lots of details on setting it up and using it.
