If you're seeing recommendations of Evolution, you're reading old stuff,
in deed. I'd say it hasn't been usable since Gnome 2.32 and the
x-desktop version of orca. If you want a gui mail client, Thunderbird
will serve you a lot better, these days, though it's a little short of
perfect. Text clients, like Mutt and Alpine, are also options. I find
that Alpine, Gnome Terminal, and Orca are a decent team; others prefer
Mutt.
