[orca-list] semi-ot: how to turn off a notebook display when using Gnome-Shell

Hi,

within the last days, I tried Gnome-Shell again and surprisingly, due
to the improvements of accessibility I could imagine working with it
permanently right now. The only bigger issue for me is that I can't
turn of the display of my notebook any more when using Gnome-Shell.
After e.g. executing "sudo vbetool dpms off", my machine freezes or at
least X crashes. Guess it has something to do with the graphic device:
As far as I know, the card is knot fully functional any more after
turning of the screen. With Gnome2/fallback, this obviously hasn't
been an issue, but in 4 it seems to me that a graphic device with
restricted functionallity makes trouble. CAn somebody verify these
problems and/or is there another "hack" to turn of the display? At
home I could cope with it, but e.g. at work/uni I don't want to have
my display turned on permanently due to energy consumption and as I
don't want that the crowd is able to look what I am working on all the
time:).

Cheers,
Jakob
