Another option, probably only relevnt if you are familiar with eclipse is
the texlipse plugin for eclipse which can be found at http://texlipse.sf.net

Good to see fellow latex users. Have you tried the gedit-latex-plugin?
That is an add-on to gedit, making it a front end for texlive. It
works okay.
You could also use emacs, or another plain-text editor. I bet
emacspeak would work well, but I have yet to start working with that.
But, if you are used to something like texshop or texniccenter, the
gedit-latex-plugin should work best.
