Joanie, you reported oldest time a bug for At-spi2 related:

Mike first committed a fix for GNOME 3.2 branch, but short time later 
this fix is reverted.
Own risk I tryed Mike patch in Precise with master branch of 
at-spi2-core source.
The interesting think, I not see any negative effects after I recompile 
and reinstall at-spi2. Gedit related focusing issue for example is 
resolved, when I launch any time with Gedit application, Orca wonderful 
read entire window, and right possible navigating the typed text.
You confirm my experience?
Why need reverting the oldest time committed fix?
