Re: [orca-list] Using gnome 3 on ubuntu 12.04

Hello, Mike.

You are not doing anything wrong.

The Activities Overview has two different views--the Windows view (which displays previews of all open windows) and the Applications view (which displays icons for all installed applications in a grid-like fashion). Regardless of which view you are in, a vertical column of icons for "favorite" applications is displayed on the very left-hand side of the Activities Overview. This is called the Dash. At this time the Windows view within the Activities Overview (which is displayed by default when the Activities Overview is opened) is not accessible to Orca. If you press CTRL+ALT+Tab repeatedly while within the Activities Overview, releasing the keys when you reach the area in which you want to be, you should be able to navigate the different parts of the Activities Overview. Myself as well as others have been working on a page of the Accessible Freedom Wiki which deals with the use of the GNOME Shell desktop. You can view this page by following the link below:

http://accessiblefreedom.org/wiki/index.php?title=GNOME_Shell

There will be more added to this page in the future, but it should get you acquainted with the GNOME Shell desktop and give you some good background information.

Also see this link for the GNOME Classic desktop (sometimes referred to as the GNOME Fallback Session):

I hope that you find this information to be helpful.

Kind regards.

Take care.

Hello all,

I'm working with ubuntu 12.04 and decided to try out gnome 3 as I've been reading about the accessibility features. I installed it from the software center in ubuntu and selected it from the login screen and can't figure out how to use it with Orca. For example, pressing the windows key brings up the overview screen and tabbing and arrowing doesn't give me any feedback. Am I doing something wrong or do I not have the correct gnome version installed? I'm running orca 3.4.2 which I believe comes with ubuntu 12.04. Thanks,

Mike
