Hi,
we are going to buy a new cellphone for my visually impaired sister.
Currently she has some simple old Nokia, but currently she is probably
not able to read the text on display anymore or with big effort. She
uses the phone only for calls and sometimes for SMS messages (mostly
only to read them, writes only few per month). This is the reason why
we do not want to buy a smartphone - first, it has a lot of functions
which she would never use and it could make the use more complicated
compared to "normal" cellphones. Second, it is much more expensive and
it also increases the interest of thiefs/pickpockets etc.
I found this interesting website:
http://www.ehow.com/info_8449059_there-cell-phone-visually-impaired.html
howeverm things like Owasys 22C
http://www.screenlessphone.com/
are no more available and were really expensive
really promising looks Samsung Haven (U320)
http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw110704
- simple flip phone with full voice output. But it seems to be only
available in the U.S via Verizon. This would be no problem (can buy
via Ebay), but it is only for American CDMA mobile networks and not
for European GSM
- I just contacted Samsung, whether there is some alternative, so we will see
Of course, we can buy something like Android smartphone wit keyboard -
HTC ChaCha, but it is little bit more expensive, my sister would never
use even 50% of its functions and it could be unnecessarily
complicated for .
There are also some clearance sales of older Nokia phones with
Symbian, but needs to buy the mobile screenreader and Symbian seems to
be definitely dead system.
any advice would be helpful
regards
Helios
