Re: [orca-list] Orca No Longer Viable as a Speech Package

I'm not sure what distribution you're using, but I use Vinux from
http://vinuxproject.org/, and I don't have the problems you're
describing with Orca crashing. If you want to learn Linux, you might
think of giving vinux a try.

Hey There,

Well folks, as the subject line indicates, I have nearly reached
the end where Orca as a viable speech package is concerned. For
several months now, I have had problems with Orca crashing when
ever it is in use. The crashing problem has only gotten worse
during the past couple of weeks or so. Orca now crashes roughly
every minute when in constant use, such as when web-browsing, up
and downloading and merely cursering through the directories in my
places menu.

I have disabled my screen reader, made sure that no extraneous
files are hogging memory unbeknownst to me and have even paid the
builder of the system to come over and run updates and otherwise
spot check my system. All of these measures were to no avail.

I know of no other alternatives to try at this point. Still worse
is the fact that the technician with whom I have been working, to
the tune of $50 per hour, hasn't a clue as to the nature of the
problem either. I can tell you this though; this problem didn't
exist before I upgraded to the latest version of the squeeze disk
earlier this year. I am in serious need of help in the form of
suggestions and anything else that any of you feel disposed to
offer. I am wanting to learn and use Linux, but am unable to do so,
because of the constant crashing of Orca.

Any and all help would be most sincerely appreciated.

cheerio,
Riv
