Try typing in your user name, then pressing enter, then your password?  You don't need speech to do that...  
You should be able to tell when your computer is fully booted up, because pressing the backspace key will 
make a beeping sound(maybe it won't, but it should)...

              hi i went back to 10.04 of linux how do i log on?
I configured orca it hink to start after login but no speech at login at
present
