Re: [orca-list] Vinux-3.01X64dvd speech problem

HI.

I'm personally not one who feels keen on monkeying with the pulse
audio init file and telling it to sleep for 12 or whatever it is.
Another suggestion which, incidentally, worked for me in Vinux 3.1
which also has this quickstart thingy is is to disable the quickstart
manual message. For this, go to Gnome's main menu > system >
preferences, startup applications. Get rid of the one that is the one
that tells you to press control alt q or whatever it is for the
quickstart manual. You are not a beginner to gnome or Linux and I
don't think you will miss being told what to do to launch the manual
every time yo start a new session. It was my very first order of
business when I installed.

Alex M

Hi.

I'm not sure as i've never booted with the install parameter. I've
always gone in to vinux, then gone to menu/administration/install vinux
and used the accessible installer that way. that's not to say it won't
work though, but to be on the safe side, let all the accessibility
packages load and vinux fully boot first, then try installing? just a
suggestion?

Thanks that fix will be useful once I install the system. What I do
need to know is when I boot with the install parameter, does Vinux let
the user know they've started install mode in any way? Understand, even
living alone as I do I don't mind trying things, but I would like to
know if I'll be able to know before everything stops if I was successful
in the attempt. That way I can make things happen faster and with a
little more certainty.

Hi. A fix for the systems that boot too quickly is listed on the latest
news
page, i'm pasting it for your reference below. I hope it helps!

18/03/2011 - Fix for no sound after installation of 3.0.1.

If you had the problem of no sound after installing Vinux 3.0.1, here is
a
solution.

you can restore sound by waiting until the system has fully booted then
pressing ctrl+alt+t to open a terminal, and

then typing the following commands exactly as written:

sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio reload

then press ctrl+alt+o to reload Orca.

Then if you're not using a live cd/dvd and would like to make the change
permanent, alt tab back to the terminal and run:

sudo gedit /etc/init.d/pulseaudio

Scroll down and change 'sleep 4' to 'sleep 12' on line 39 then save this
file.
Next time you restart, the sound should be fine.

The first command to reload pulse audio is relevant to your situation,
and as
you can see we've outlined if the issue persists after installation how
to fix
it.

Mo.

speech stops after "press control-alt-q to open Vinux manual" is spoken
on the livecd. For now this isn't an installed system and I'm hoping if
I give this a hard drive and start it up with the install boot option
that it won't mess up on me. Apparently pulseaudio is crashing since
ubuntu boots so fast. If progress messages could be inserted into the
boot process where a user was requested to hit certain keys to proceed
to the next step this problem could be made to go away. Perhaps putting
the progress messages in only for accessibility interface branch of the
install might make the people that don't use accessibility happy too.

Hi, Jude,

Can you please describe the problem you are having more fully? I am
CC-ing the Vinux support list to improve your chances of getting
assistance with a Vinux installation.
Thanks.
