I suspect the UK keyboard layout here.  On one of my Vinux installs, I
remember having to do something to the right alt key in the keyboard
preferences for Gnome.  Had to tell prefs applet that some other key
was '3rd-level', thereby making 'right-alt' available.  I haven't had
to do this in subsequent installs, though.
