Re: [orca-list] Firefox 4.0 and Tabbing to Links

One thing that concerns me with these mozilla bugs is even when
someone supplies patches to attempt a fix to the problem that they are
not being pushed upstream. I guess if I need to, I can manually apply
the patches he has attached to the bug report. I'm not sure how easy
it will be to apply these patches to newer versions of firefox like
4.0. So far, I really Like Firefox 4; at least the bookmarks library
seems really good now. I can actually organize and select target
folders for my bookmarks now without having to go clear back to FF
3.5.9!

I'll look at these bugs you mentioned and add update comments to the
Mozilla bug to make more noise, I really don't know any Firefox code
internals now so would find that to be a daunting task - none the
less. Thanks again, Bill for getting into a complex beast like
Firefox. I just wish some other developers would listen and take your
fixes more seriously.

Hey Steve.

I've been using Firefox pretty regular now and am encountering a
problem but am unsure how to describe for a bug report. Basically,
when I use the arrow keys to read through text and find a link or form
element that I wish to click on, I would then tab to be sure to focus
the desired element or link. The problem is, most often, pressing the
tab key will take the focus to some link way up towards the top of the
page, if not the top of the page.

That would be this bug:

[blocked] Orca does not move to the expected object when Tab is pressed
in Firefox 3.6 effective June 11th build
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=609890

That's our blocked tracking bug for this Mozilla bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546068

This Mozilla bug is the one Bill Cox has been working on (thanks Bill).
The last comment, dated two weeks ago is:

Ok, I'll try and update the patch to address these comments. I'll also
investigate the old and new focus behaviour. One thing I'm fairly confident of
however, is that after setting the caret offset in heading1, the test4 link
should not (and does not after the patch) have the focus. Where the focus
actually goes, I don't know! But, I'll find out.

Any updates Bill?

Take care.
