Hi, yes,

using a tieman braille voyager, the display works fine inside a vmware.
Have used both ubuntu and windows as hosts and guests.

you just have to go to the vm menu, and removable media, there you will 
find a usb sub menu, and you should be able to select the usb connection 
for the display.
