Hi Scott,
I don't know if this will help, but sometimes when I lose speech I press
the right button of the mouse and orca starts to speak again.

Okay, with some help I got updated to 8.10 and appear to have the
latest version of orca on my machine. However, there are a couple
things that still happen. If I open a message in evolution and switch
to carrot view, I can read the message with the arrow keys or the flat
review keys in orca but still can't get the message to read
automaticly like in other email clients. ' is there a setting I can
change for this? Also, in pigeon when I launch the program, I can hit
enter on its icon on my desktop but I then lose speech and end up
needing to killall orca and rerun it to get it. Is there a work around
or a key that maybe I need to use to make it get focus? I'm wondering
if its more of a lack of focus thing so thats why its not speaking
cause more often than not, if I hit alt f2 the run box comes up
speaking. And finally is it my understanding that we still need to do
some stuff to set admin level speech if your using add/remove? I got
it to read the screen better with these versions and I can see whats
there and available, and chose what changes I want to make, but when I
put in my password to let it run I lost speech entirely, and I let the
system run for a good while to install whatever it was gona install so
finally ended up powering down the system with the power button and
restarting to reboot back in to linux. Heh, I think thats all the
questions I have for today, but I'm only on my first cup of coffee so
far. Thanks folks for all your help.
Scott
