[orca-list] Ubuntu: Network Manager Icon

I'm not extremely familiar with Ubuntu, using it sparingly, but I'm  
posting this question for my girlfriend.  She's trying to use the  
Network Manager icon that should be in one of the panels in Ubuntu for  
selecting different wireless networks easily.  From what I've read, I  
believe it should be in the Notification Area, and that that area  
isn't really accessible at this point.  If there is a way to use the  
Network Manager icon this way with Orca, could someone please advise  
how to enable it and how to access it with Orca.  Much thanks.
