I just installed a Cepstral v5.0 voice (UK Millie) on a Ubuntu Hardy machine
with Orca and the AT-SPI infrastructure from SVN trunk.
It installed and registered no problem after following the instructions on
the wiki and I could choose it from the speech synthesizers combo box in
Orca.
Basically it just keeps cutting out every couple of minutes and you have to
wait a good 30 seconds every time before it starts talking again.
Hard to say if specific apps are causing it to hang up more than others but
Nautilus was certainly unusable with it - it was cutting out practically
every time I changed directories. Doesn't seem to make any diference if
music is playing so I dunno if it's a pulse audio thing.
I imagine the problem is with the gnome-speech driver for swift but I
haven't yet managed to get Speech-despatcher working so can't try it with
that.
