The "could not open display" thing is disconcerting. Is your X server
running? Is your DISPLAY environment variable set? Do commands like
xdpyinfo work? If not, there's problems deeper than Orca that need to
be resolved first. :-(

Hi all,
I am still having problems running the latest version of Orca on the latest test version of Debian. I have
installed the latest SVN trunk of both at-spi and orca. Here is what I get if I try to run orca:
/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:72: GtkWarning: could not open display
warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning)
Traceback (most recent call last):

import pyatspi
File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pyatspi/__init__.py", line 44, in ?
reg = bonobo.activation.activate_from_id(REGISTRY_IID, 0, 0)
Bonobo.GeneralError
Any thoughts?
Many thanks,
Christian
