Hi,
after updating Espeak to 1.19 everything works.
It seems as if 1.18 does not cooperate with the Gnome speech server. Don't 
ask me why?
The command
apt-get install libespeak-dev
completely screwed up my synth settings, because the version is to old.
It took me some time to rebuild my synth configuration, so folks, don't do 
that!
The next thing is to test Firefox, from which all has started.
