Hi all, I am new to this list, so I
apologize if this has already been discussed. However, despite running commands
listed on the orca FAQ, I am unable to run orca with administrative tools such
as synaptic package manager. The following are commands I have
tried using ubuntu 7.04 sudo su - root cat > ~/.orbitrc << EOF ORBIIOPIPv4=1 ORBIIOPUNIX=0 EOF The problem is that immediately
after putting in the second line cat > ~/.orbitrc << EOF Orca just says greater than greater
than. This is all the output I get, even after entering subsequent lines of
text in the terminal. It doesn’t appear to work. I have also tried a second way. According
to the web site, you can type sudo su in the terminal and then type killall orca.
Then, type orca again and it should be running as root. Whenever I try this
approach however, I get the following error. GTK accessibility module initialized.
Speech not available. So, I have two questions 1. Is it possible to do these
accessibility commands using a live CD? I want to make sure I know how to access
all parts of the system before installing gnome itself. 2. If these commands can be done to
allow orca access, Am I doing something wrong here? Thank you for any help you can
provide in advance Sincerely, John J Herzog No virus found in this outgoing
