Re: [orca-list] Orca Problems with Access-Bridge

Hi Krister:

In response to your comments and the trouble people have been having, we're working on a two phase solution. The first is that Lynn Monsanto from the Orca team will be working to update the documentation on the page to make sure it is accurate, complete, and works at least on Ubuntu. The second is that we'll also be working with the Java Access Bridge maintainer to get some prebuilt binaries and files available for people to use. We're not sure whether they will be hosted somewhere related to Orca or just in their own spot (e.g., http://live.gnome.org/JABG), but will send out info when things are ready.

Thanks!

Will

Excuse an idiot when it comes to programming and complex syntax, but is
that page you suggested intended for end users who are non-programmers?
If so, i'm afraid that the command explanations were a bit brief. I'll
have to say i didn't understand the ./configure command at all and it
looked at least to my untrained fingers that it contained a character
which i don't even know how to produce on my keyboard namely "ansi 10"
as my browser said.
Do these commands you propose require the setting up of environment
variables?

Hi David:

Let's get you going, and also make sure our documentation is up to date. Does the following page help?

http://live.gnome.org/Orca/JABG

If it doesn't, we'll need to update the page. Let me know how things work out.

Thats not an orca problem!!

Check your javac installation by typing:
javac -version
on a linux console.
You need the java sdk from sun to get the accesbridge to work.

Sorry, I should have put that in the message. I am using Sun's JDK 1.5.0_11.

I sent the message to this list because I thought it was the most likely place where I would find persons knowledgeable about integrating Access-Bridge into the Gnome desktop. Again, if there is another list that is more appropriate, please let me know.

Thanks,

dave

Hi,

If this is not the correct venue for this question, please let me know
where I should take this problem.

I am running Ubuntu Edgy. I'm afraid that I can't give you a version
number for Gnome, since Orca will not read anything in the about Gnome
window. However, it should be the most recent update available through
apt-get. I am new to gnome, so if there is an easy way to get the
version info, please let me know.

I downloaded Java Access-Bridge, version 1.5.0. I installed packages
until configure returned no errors. (One issue, however... the only
gnome-2.0 directory in the tree is /usr/share/gnome-2.0, so I did not
pass a prefix into configure. If this indicates that there is a package
that I need to install, please let me know.)

When I make install, I get the following output with Java errors:
