Orca orca bug discovered, can't get output in gnome-terminal

hello,
finally got orca working with ubuntu 6.10 edgy.
but I have another problem.
orca is not giving speach output in terminal.
further more, none of the num pad key commands are working for navigation.
the key combinations with insert is also not working.
I tried for example to increase the rate with insert + right arrow.
it is not working.  nither insert + f1 for help.
did I do any thing wrong while the first time setup?
I said yes to every thing except braille.
