Orca Braille with Debian Etch

Greetings,

I've reinstalled etch from scratch. When I configure Orca, I get the 
following message:

 This script was unable to find libbrlapi.so

I've uninstaled brltty and reinstalled it with --prefix=/usr, 
--sysconfdir=/etc and --localstatedir=/var, the same as I use with Orca. 
libbrlapi.so is happily sitting in /usr/lib.

What can one do?
