I can only speak for my particular USB keypad, but I haven't had any
problems with it. Learn mode works as expected. The only thing I can
think of is to be sure that NumLock is off first.
Hope this helps!

Hi Michael:
To press Insert+F1 to go into Orca keystroke help (what us Orcians call
"learn mode"), which physical keys are you pressing? Are you
simultaneously pressing one on the USB keypad and one on the laptop
keyboard? If so, this may not be something supported by the OS. I'm
not sure though.

However although it works sometimes I seem to have difficulty when
trying to do the Orca keystroke for the Orca keystroke help because it
keeps going into gnome help.
I have the version of Orca which was packaged for Ubuntu by Luke, 0.2.5
I think it is.
