Hi Juan:
I believe depends upon the underlying audio support. The problem is
that some systems do not support mixing of audio from multiple sources
and instead only allow one thing to access the audio device at a time.
This contention would cause problems when trying to do speech synthesis
and sounds at the same time. Thus, on a system with this kind of
problem, disabling system sounds helps reduce the contention.
Hope this helps,
Will

Hello,
I read somewhere that there was a known problem where one could not have
system sounds enabled in gnome. Is this true?
Thanks
