Hi Juan,
Please see the GNOME Accessibility Guide for tons of info on keyboard
commands for operating all things GNOME:
http://www.gnome.org/learn/access-guide/2.14/ (and specifically see
Chapter 3 "Using the Keyboard to Navigate the Desktop" at
http://www.gnome.org/learn/access-guide/2.14/keynav-0.html ).
There is no "global" key-combination to bring up the control panel - you
either need to invoke it from the Run dialog (Alt+F2), or navigate to it
through the menus (Alt+F1 - or Ctrl-ESC in some distros to get to the
first menu).
The moral equivalent of the task bar is either a top or bottom panel
with things like an application menu in it (but also commonly lots of
other goodies). Ctrl+Alt+TAB will cycle through all of the various
panels and the desktop (where you can get to icons, the trash, etc.).

Peter Korn

Thanks for the help.
I have a few more questions.
First, I see that alt+f1 goes to the applications menu, where I can access
various apps, but how can I access like the control pannel, and how do I
shutdown the gnome-session?
I remember that when using gnopernicus I could easly do this, but I don't
know if I hit a certain key, or something else.
Thanks

Hi Juan:
Thanks for the kind words. The configuration GUI for Orca is not
complete yet. We hope to get *something* available soon. For now, you
need to hand edit ~/.orca/user-settings.py.
In general, we're trying to keep the specific interface and keystrokes for
Orca to a minimum. That is, we don't want to have to require users to learn
a whole bunch of special Orca keystrokes in order to be able to use the
machine. Instead, Orca will follow your keyboard focus around the display
and present things to you.
But, we do realize the need to do some exploring and some control of Orca
using the keyboard. For this, we've generally taken over the numeric keypad
and have also chosen to use the "Insert" key as the Orca modifier. If you
want to explore around the keyboard, you can enter Orca's learn mode by
pressing Insert+F1. When you enter learn mode, Orca will consume all
keyboard events and will tell you what action the key combination you've
pressed will do. To exit learn mode, press the escape key.
You can also visit the Orca web site and WIKI for more information:
http://www.gnome.org/projects/orca
Hope this helps,
Will

Great, thanks. I got orca up and running.
My first impressions are, I really like this much more than gnopernicus.
One queston, does orca have a controlpannel to be ab le to change
settings?
If yes how do I access it?
Also, is there a guide on the commands for orca?
Thanks.

Hi Juan:
With respect to gnome-speech, the Java support is needed to build the
gnome-speech driver for FreeTTS. If you don't a a need for this, the
the gnome-speech build should work fine without the Java access bridge.

One other thing, I noticed when building gnome-speech, that there
was java support, is this for accessability? If it is, how do I get
it to recognize my java access bridge?
thanks

Hi Juan:
You should be able to do this in three meta steps:
o Obtain/install IBMTTS from IBM
o Build gnome-speech, enabling the IBMTTS driver
o Run orca-setup and choose the IBMTTS driver
Hope this helps, and the same instructions apply if you want to use
the Fonix DECtalk voices,
Will
