There's an overview for the C APIs here:

If that doesn't scare you into using the C++ API, I don't know what
will. ;)
"Advanced CORBA Programming with C++" is pretty good for the C++ API.
You said you have that, so that's a good start. I've been using this
book to learn CORBA.
