if you installed these libs under '/usr/local' it might be usefull to 
tell this 'configure', otherwise it is using the default directory 
('/usr/lib/pkgconfig')

./configure --with-pkg-config-path=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig

Make sure this directory exists.
