more details on orbit 1/2 interop

Hi,

So, initially I was just having the problem that I opened a directory
and tried to read the IOR from it. ;-) After changing that to open the
IOR file instead of its parent directory, the interop issues seem to
be IOR-related.

ORBit1 client talking to ORBit2 server I get client warnings:

I'll just go ahead and commit to GConf HEAD; to test all this requires
latest CVS of both HEAD and stable GConf.
