I believe the term is federated naming service. I have written one that
synchronizes name/object-reference pairs across hosts using a UDP
broadcast on a shared port, similar to Visibroker's OSAgent
application. Its very nice in that I can bring up my agents on any
machine, and have access to them from my local network.
