Reporting broken links in bugzilla.gnome.org usually does the trick.
If the link is from a page on Gnome.org you might even grab the page
from CVS and submit a patch to fix it (like i really should have done
last time i reported a broken link).

Surely some sort of a place holder should be put there telling people
something, anything is more useful than a dead link.
