Hmmm.  Personally, I can see the benefit of a), but b) just strikes me
as wrong. Save As does just that - it saves the document to a file.
"Saving" to another program should (IMHO) involve cut/copy/paste or
Bonobo-esque embedding, which removed the need for b) in the first place.

This type of drag-and-drop mechanism can be useful for dropping things
on other than standard files: for example, you could d-n-d an .mp3
file on a music player object; d-n-d a letter on a fax machine object;
d-n-d a photo on a printer object; and so on.  The widely acclaimed
OS/2 Workplace Shell (RIP)  used this style of object manipulation to
good effect.
