[PATCH 0/4] obsolete branch danw/wip/hostnamed for reference

Dan did danw/wip/hostnamed to use hostnamed to set the hostname,
but it never got merged. In the meantime, these things are fixed
and the branch cannot be meaningful rebased.

I drop it from our git-repository and park it int the mailing list for
later reference.

The patches apply on commit 8215fd92fc2d39701ab8b058612a7a5b836f1af2.

No patch left behind :)
