Using +CNUM is a "best effort" ("good enough effort"?) attempt to retrieve the MSISDN. I'd say it should be left to layers above ModemManager to try operator-specific methods if necessary, since ModemManager doesn't (and shouldn't) have knowledge of operator-specific information.

I like the look of this, but what methods will you use to derive the value? As
far as I know the SIM might have the value stored (retrieved via +CNUM or
+CRSM?) but otherwise isn't getting the value only possible via operator
specific USSD or SMS methods?
