Thanks both for your quick answers.
I finally tracked down my problem. Seeing that the log outputs were perfectly normal, at least for the reasons given, I had to go back to the beginning at that carrier off warning. I had dismissed it since everything appeared fine: cables were plugged-in, router was working alright and switch power light was on... But that last check was all wrong. Just because the power light was on didn't means it was working. I concluded too quickly: the other lights were off. It appeared that the switch's power supply (you know those little things you get in every routers, switchs, etc. boxes) was busted. It was giving off power just enough to light that switch power indicator, but not enough for it to work. Bought a new power supply. Problem solved.

This is not an error. The device is deactivated when preparing the device
before it can be used by NM.
