Network Manager 0.8.1

On attempting to install the above, the 'make' command ('./configure'
eventually worked OK after installing all of the required packages)
produced the following errors:

/bin/sed: can't read
0.8.1/NetworkManager-0.8.1/libnm-util/libnm-util.la: No such file or
directory
libtool: link: `0.8.1/NetworkManager-0.8.1/libnm-util/libnm-util.la' is
not a valid libtool archive
make[2]: *** [libnm-glib-vpn.la] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/john/Networkmanager
0.8.1/NetworkManager-0.8.1/libnm-glib'
make[1]: *** [check] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/john/Networkmanager
0.8.1/NetworkManager-0.8.1/libnm-glib'
make: *** [check-recursive] Error 1

File libnm-util.la does exist
in /home/john/Networkmanager-0.8.1/NetworkManager-0.8.1/libnm-util and,
to the untrained and linux inexperienced eye, looks OK.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
