Is NM being told to go to sleep and wake up properly?  If so, you'll see
these messages in the logs:

NetworkManager: Sleeping...
NetworkManager: Waking up...

Can you provide some logs from /var/log/messages or /var/log/daemon.log
that show the wake-up sequence?

Dan
