I think you should try the final 0.7 backports for intrepid we have in
the ~network-manager team PPA: http://launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive/ppa
Not sure if the knetworkmanager will work with that, but give it a try anyway.
If it still causes issues, please file a bug against network-manager
using the command line like:
ubuntu-bug network-manager
