you're right, it shouldn't be neccesary, but it's still weird from the
user perspective, when you are connected over a wire to the modem and
nm tells you, you aren't just because dhcp failed. using zeroconf as a
failback in this case wouldn't be bad imho, so at least the user sees
you are connected to something. in windows for example, you only get
this "cable unplugged" message when the wire isn't plugged into sth on
both ends. nm telling me that i'm not connected could also be the
result of a broken network device, from an end-user's perspective.
