Thank you for your help Johann. However, the script doesn't work for me.
I copied and pasted the script to a text file which I then saved with
an .sh extension, then executed with "sh <filename>" in a terminal,
which I assume is correct. However, I got some syntax errors and the
script didn't work for me. Besides that, if I look at the content of the
script, it doesn't seem to take in to account that I'm on a wired
connection, not a wireless connection. So this probably won't work for
me.

But I still haven't received a reply to my most important question,
(why) is it (not) possible to configure NM to connect with 802.1X and
EAP-TTLS/PAP over a wired connection? I thought the NM developers were
actively reading this list. I guess I'll post a bugreport in Bugzilla to
get their attention.
