bug report: Wireless network keeps reconnecting (ubuntu edgy)

A number of Ubuntu users, including myself, are experiencing frequent
disconnects and reconnects that seem to be caused by NetworkManager. A
bug report and initial patch are here:

I experienced this myself with a new wireless card, the Proxim Orinoco
a/b/g ComboCard GOLD (with Atheros chipset and ath_pci driver). An older
wireless card that uses the Orinoco chipset and driver does not have
this problem.

It's very annoying because it kills an active SSH session and requires a
manual VPN reconnection as well (which should happen automatically in
this case anyway).
