MPPC requires the US-patent-breaking MPPC patch for pppd.
I do not recommend using it - unless you have to (ie. server
won't connect with out compression - which seems rare).
I used use that patch but recent pppd/kernel releases have the necessary
MPPE abilities.
Try just unticking MPPC compression in your config.
Unfortunately, there is no way to detect the precise patch-level
of pppd (at least not that I have found yet). This could probably do
with some better error message - Again not sure where to
get that from either (except parsing the stderr of pppd!!)
(better cc. the NM crew for info/archiving)

So "require-mppc" is unknown to my version of pppd. Is this to be
expected? what version are you using? Any chance for a quick fix for
this? ;)
Cheers,
