I see this too, on occasion. The bug was introduced somewhere between
the first and 12th of September, I think, based on behavior of snapshots
I have.
Basically, when nm-applet starts up on boot, SOMETIMES it has the no
connection icon despite being connected. Killing and restarting it
yields the correct icon--so it is most likely something in the applet.
It is on my list of things to track down, but I have not yet.
