Furthermore, with NetworkManager, your TCP connections can be broken at
_any_ time, if your network goes away, if you dock your laptop, etc.
Applications like IM, or IRC, etc, need to be able to handle this
cleanly by reconnecting and not loosing their previous conversations for
example.

This _isn't_ a system problem, its an app problem where the apps expect
to always have their connections around, which isn't always the case.
