I should also mention, for those who do not know... to the question "why
does anything else need to modify resolv.conf?" It's not just that.
It's the programs that need to do something when resolv.conf is
modified. Not all of them are D-BUS aware, and perhaps some will never
be. So, for at least during some transition period before all of those
programs are able to accept a dbus message, the hook scripts may be
needed.
