Hello Holger,
Indeed, dual panel was removed due to its UX problems in favour of
having two windows side by side.
What use cases are you missing in a two windows side by side set up?

That's not dual pane, it's two separated, unconnected windows,
displayed side-by-side. That's a lot different to real dual-pane mode
(which nautilus used to have, but which unfortunately was removed a
while ago).
